The coastal city of Bodø, capital of Nordland county, lies just north of the Polar Arctic Circle (67°N). Here the midnight Sun is visible from June 2nd until July 10th. Bodø is surrounded by a landscape of astonishing natural beauty. Popular tourist attractions include the old fish trading post at Kjerringøy, the wonderful Lofoten archipelago and one of the strongest tidal currents in the World at Saltstraumen. The GIA 2009 symposium will take place at the University’s main campus in Mørkved, some 10 km from the city centre.
